BDP Studio Sheffield
The design brief of this architecture studio was to provide a functional lighting scheme that also allowed for distinctively lit breakout spaces. The general office lighting is designed to 300lux and controlled by presence detection with daylight sensor override. Each occupied seat counts with a user-controlled task light that boosts the lighting levels to 500 lux, giving the user individual control of higher lux levels for more detailed tasks. The ‘breakout’ lighting varies in colour and light quality. The use of pendants is a visual break from the general office floor and the colour changing LEDs recessed into the frosted glass partitions provides visual interest to the studio. Philip Rafael was the lead designer and managed this project as part of his work as Senior Lighting Designer at BDP Lighting.
